EISA’s ECCAS Liaison Office

On August 2016, EISA Regional Representative in ECCAS met the Secretary General of ECCAS to discuss the partnership between the two institutions

In June 2010, EISA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) aimed at increasing the role and capacity of ECCAS to assess elections as well as provide meaningful electoral assistance to its Member States. EISA supported ECCAS in building the capacity of electoral stakeholders in São Tomé and Príncipe in the run-up to the 12th October elections. After further successful collaboration, EISA deployed an electoral expert in Libreville, Gabon, to ensure effective and long term support to ECCAS and in April 2015 a liaison office was opened.

On August 2016, EISA Regional Representative in ECCAS met the Secretary General of ECCAS to discuss the partnership between the two institutions. The Secretary General recognized EISA’s presence within the unit has enabled ECCAS to be more proactive in its member states, being able to offer capacity building and technical support to electoral commissions and be more responsive to member states’ needs. ECCAS would like the MoU of 2010 to be updated within weeks to make sure EISA continues to respond to ECCAS’ needs.
