Zambia PEMMO training

A workshop to train Zambian NGOs on the EISA/ECF Principles for Election Management, Monitoring and Observation in the SADC Region (PEMMO) was held at the Cresta Goldview Hotel in Lusaka on the 17th October 2005.

The forty participants represented all of Zambia's provinces and most were drawn from the Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) and the Zambia National Women's Lobby (ZNWL). The purpose of the training was to familiarise observers with the PEMMO with a view to use it to observe 2006 Tripartite Elections, beginning with the voter registration process which commences on 31st October 2005.

Training content included:

  • Defining credible and legitimate elections,
  • Civil society observation of elections and
  • Using the PEMMO to design a voter registration checklist.
