The Role and Challenges of Civil Society Engagement in Post-election Disputes Resolution
21-23 July 2008, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
The conference will have participants drawn from both Governmental and Non-Governmental bodies from across the continent, and is aimed at discussing the increasingly worrying problem of post-election disputes and how civil society can play a role in their resolution. It is hoped that the conference will come up with recommendations regarding the following:
- Appropriate roles and opportunities for civil society engagement in the resolution of post-election; disputes
- Appropriate mechanisms for civil society engagement in the resolution of post-election disputes;
- A recognition by both continental and regional organizations of the roles that civil society can play in post-election disputes resolution and the creation of the necessary and appropriate frameworks for such engagements across the continent.
