Civil Society Capacity Building for Electoral support
11 to 13 January 2006, Seychelles
EISA will be facilitating a workshop in the Seychelles on Electoral Observation in January 2006.
It is an initiative of the Centre for Rights and Development (CEFRAD), in collaboration with the Seychelles Human Rights Network (SHRN).
Civil society representatives from Seychelles attended the EISA conference in May 2005 entitled The Challenge to Civil Society Organisations in Contributing to the Consolidation and Promotion of the Democratic Electoral Porcess, where participants spent some time considering how PEMMO can be applied in their country specific contexts. [Read about the PEMMO here]. Following this workshop, the Liaison Unit for NGOs in Seychelles (Lungos) proposed setting up an NGO election group for the Seychelles.
This forthocming workshop is providing an opportunity to explore this initiative further, look at the application of PEMMO more deeply and consider and debate the role of natoinal observers in promoting the democratic electoral process. About 50 particiapnts will be attending the workshop.
