Swaziland political parties workshop

19 - 21 November 2007

This workshop forms part of the Strengthening Political Parties for Sustainable Democracy in the SADC Region project. This project has entered the capacity building phase. Other countries included in the project are Lesotho, South Africa and Botswana.

The workshop was attended by all the political organisations in Swaziland. Delegates included youth and women participants representing various party structures. The Coordinating Assembly of Non- Governmental Organisations (CANGO) and the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) also attended as EISA's local partners in Swaziland.

Objectives

To contribute to party capacity building based on a needs assessment.

The specific objectives of this workshop were to:

• Provide participants with an understanding of the nature and character of political parties
• Provide participants with effective leadership skills
• Equip participants with organisational development skills
• Introduce participants to public outreach strategies
• Give participants an insight into political party coalitions
• Empower participants with conflict management skills
• enhance the capacity of participants to participate in electoral processes
