Technical training for the Malawi Electoral Commission
Two workshops will be held, both at the Sunbird Hotel in Zomba, Malawi: an Orientation Workshop for Commissioners from 2-3 June 2008 and a Training of Trainers Workshop for the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) from 4-6 June 2008.
Orientation Workshop for the MEC
The Orientation is part of the ACE Capacity Building Facility and the Enhancing Capacity of Election Practitioners (ECEP) programmes which are both implemented by EISA. It is aimed at commissioners and members of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
Aims and Objectives
The orientation of the electoral commissioners is intended to achieve the following:
- Reflection and learning from the experiences of the last elections.
- Introduce commissioners to relevant electoral topic areas including discussion on electoral systems and an introduction to the guidelines and instruments for credible elections as well as the relevant Malawi Electoral Legislation
- Familiarise commissioners on their roles and responsibilities and the functions and duties that they as commissioner will be expected.
Training of trainers for MEC staff
This activity is targeted mainly at MEC staff who will be responsible for designing, planning and conducting training for their colleagues in carrying out different activities associated with the management of the 2009 elections.
Using a training module of the BRIDGE programme this activity will cover the following:
- Training Strategies
- Planning, Management and Delivery of Training
- Training Methods and Skills
- Training Resources, Courses and Capacity Development
