EISA Kenya Conflict Management Panel Launch

EISA in conjunction with the IIEC successfully launched the Conflict Management Panel (CMP) for Coast Province at the Mombasa Beach Hotel. Participants included IIEC Commissioners and senior staff, Coast Parliamentary Forum Chairman Hon. Danson Mungatana, Key CSOs in Coast Province, the City Council of Mombasa and the Provincial Police. The Hon. Danson Mungatana (MP Garsen Constituency), Commissioner Ken Nyaundi (IIEC) and Felix Odhiambo (Country Director, EISA-Kenya) formally launched the Panel.

The workshop included:

Nyuandi and Nzibo
  • Induction training and familiarisation for stakeholders around conflict and mediation.
  • The formation of linkages with key stakeholders regarding the establishment of CMPs. Partnerships were established with the Coast Parliamentary Forum, provincial administration, provincial police and local CSOs.
  • The establishment of structures to facilitate the work of the Panel.
  • Nomination and appointment of 13 representatives to serve in the Conflict Management Panel for Coast Province. Representatives were selected from various stakeholders including eminent persons, key NGOs and CSOs, political parties, women’s organisations and youth groups.
  • An introduction to EISA programme activities in Kenya and more broadly in Africa.
