EPIC Training workshop
EISA is organising a methodology workshop to launch its new regional research programme under the theme Consolidating Democratic Governance in the SADC region. The principal goal of this research programme is to advance the process of democracy consolidation through research, dialogue, information exchange and lobby and advocacy among practitioners, scholars and civil society organisations involved directly or indirectly in the governance process in the SADC region. The specific objectives of the research programme are as follows:
- To strengthen the mechanisms for qualitative and quantitative data collection for the purpose of formulating criteria for evaluating democratic consolidation in SADC
- To analyse the correlation between democratic governance and delivery of social and economic transformation on a country-by-country basis in the SADC region; and
- To provide country profiles on the consolidation of democratic governance and adherence to international human rights norms and standards in SADC.
The workshop will be attended by researchers from thirteen SADC countries who will in turn be responsible for undertaking the study in their own respective countries under the guidance of the Senior Advisor-Research Department at EISA who is the regional coordinator of the programme.
