The United Nations website can be used to access various documents and links to other sources of information on the APRM. The UN website is available in English, French, Portuguese and Arabic, as well as a number of other international languages.
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) [www] http://www.undp.org
The UNDP is the United Nations' global development network. The organisation is an advocate for change by connecting countries together through knowledge, experience and resources. The UNDP is a partner institution of the APRM, and is particularly valuable as a resource on the technical aspects and implementation of the peer review process at national levels. The website contains documents in English, Portuguese and French.

The ECA is the regional arm of the United Nations in Africa and a partner institution of the APRM. The aim of the ECA is to support the economic and social development of African states, foster regional integration and enhance international cooperation for Africa's development. The ECA website provides extensive information on many aspects of the APRM. The website is available in English and French.

The Commonwealth Secretariat is the executive/administrative arm of a group of independent nation-states comprising 53 members (18 African states) and a represented population of 1.8 billion people worldwide. The Commonwealth website has a small number of links to documents and statements on the APRM. The website is available in English.

La Francophonie is an international organisation of 49 French-speaking nations who are committed to the ideals of equality, complementarity and solidarity. La Francophonie is a resource for French documentation on the APRM. The website is available in French.

The League of Arab States, which is comprised of 22 Arab nations, has much in common with the African Union or Organisation of American States in that its primary aims are political. However, the League bases its membership on cultural rather than geographic or historical connections. A number of North African states are part of the Arab league and the website is a likely source of APRM materials in Arabic. The website is available in Arabic. An English site may be available in the near future.

The European Commission embodies and upholds the general interest of the European Union (EU) and is the driving force in the EU's institutional system. The European Commission website makes a number of European Parliament resolutions and statements on NEPAD and the APRM available. The website is available in English and French.
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) (UNECA) [www] http://www.oecd.org
The OECD is a group of 30 countries with a shared commitment to the principles of democracy, good governance and the market economy. The APRM draws much of its conceptual influence from the OECD model of peer review, and the OECD website is an excellent resource for background theory to the process of country peer review. The website is available in English and French.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) [www] http://www.imf.org
The IMF is an organisation of 184 countries, whose aim is to promote international monetary cooperation, economic growth and assist countries in maintaining their balance of payments. The APRM has in some instances been linked by national governments to their poverty reduction strategy agreements with the IMF, and this website provides useful economic information on this aspect of the APRM strategies of various countries. The website is available in English, Spanish and French.

The World Bank has an extensive library of APRM documentation available, including official documentation, commentaries and research into NEPAD and the APRM. The World Bank site is available in English, Spanish and French.
Pan-African Institutions
African Development Bank (AfDB) [www] http://www.adb.org
The AfDB is an institution whose membership includes all 53 African states and 24 non-regional member states to promote sustainable economic growth in order to reduce poverty in Africa. The AfDB provides technical support to the APRM and has a number of APRM resources, primarily focussed on economic governance but also including political and socio-developmental resources. The website is available in English and French.
African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) [www] http://www.achpr.org
The ACPHR is an African body whose mandate is to promote and uphold the rights of human beings, based on the African Charter for Human and Peoples' rights. Although the ACHPR does not have any materials directly relevant to the APRM, there is a high degree of similarity between the standards of the ACHPR and the APRM's standards for political and socio-economic development. This site therefore offers a broader understanding of some of the complex human rights issues in Africa today. The website is available in English and French.

The AU officially adopted NEPAD as its economic development framework at its inaugural launch in South Africa in 2003. The African Union therefore issues statements from time to time regarding NEPAD and the APRM. The majority of these statements are usually made available on the AU website.
New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) [www] http://www.nepad.org
The NEPAD website is the official website of both NEPAD and the APRM. The website is kept fairly up to date and new information is constantly being made available. The website is available in French and English, and can be accessed on the NEPAD homepage.
Pan-African Parliament (PAP) [www] http://www.pan-african-parliament.org/index2.htm
The PAP is another continental body which from time to time makes pronouncements on NEPAD and the APRM. These statements are available on the PAP website.
African Regional Bodies
Arab Maghreb Union [www] http://www.maghrebarabe.org
The 5 member Arab Maghreb Union is a political and economic body in North-West Africa. The website hosts information relating to the political and economic activities of the union members. Algeria is the only member presently which has presently acceded to the APRM. The website is available in Arabic and French.
Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) [www] http://www.comesa.int
COMESA is a regional organisation of African states with the aim of economic integration, development and growth. A number of the body's members are APRM signatories, and in addition to COMESA materials on NEPAD, the website offers background economic and development data for these states. The website is available in English and French.
East African Community (EAC) [www] http://www.eac.int
All three members of the EAC have also acceded to the APRM. The EAC website in addition to APRM and NEPAD documentation as it relates to the EAC members also includes useful information about regional integration in the East African Community and other political and economic initiatives in the region. ECCAS is a regional organisation of African states in central Africa. The ECCAS website includes useful economic and political information on its member states, although there is little at present available for the APRM. The website is available in French and Portuguese with an English browser under construction.

ECOWAS is an organisation of West African states, which promotes political and economic cooperation and integration between its members. The site is available in English and French.
Southern African Development Community (SADC) [www] http://www.sadc.int
The SADC is made up of 14 member states from Southern Africa. Although not all SADC member states have signed the APRM Memorandum of Understanding indicating their accession to the APRM, SADC does from time to time issues pronouncements on NEPAD and the APRM. This website is also a useful resource for relevant information on Southern Africa.

The SADC-PF is an organisation of Southern African parliaments which seeks to promote democratic governance and civil society participation in government. The site is a useful resource on Southern African states. The site is available in English.
International CSOs
Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) [www] http://www.cps.org.za
CPS is an independent policy research institution that produces original and thought-provoking research on South Africa's, and the rest of Africa's policies, governance and democratisation challenges. CPS is currently engaged in a major expansion programme with a strong emphasis on Africa.
CPS has been directly involved in some of the most rigorous analysis of NEPAD and the APRM to date and has published several works on the subject. Further information is available on the CPS website.
Development Policy Management Forum (DPMF) [www] http://www.dpmf.org
The DPMF is a Regional CSO (Civil Society Organization) covering sub-Saharan African Countries; its office being located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in the UNECA-Economic Commission for Africa- compound. Since its inception in March 1995, DPMF has carried out important activities aimed at consolidating and institutionalizing democratic governance in Africa. In particular it focuses on enhancing the institutional capacity of the policy management process in African countries. DPMF's mission also includes the area of conflicts -- their management, resolution and particularly the post conflict reconciliation process. DPMF has created and is expanding a pan-African network of concerned individuals and institutions who want to consolidate democratic governance through enhancing capacity of the policy process in African countries in order to face the challenges of development, the reconstruction process in post-conflict countries, and of the African renaissance. The DPMF, in partnership with the Ford Foundation's Special Initiative for Africa (SIA) was responsible for funding the project which derived this toolkit.

EISA is a not for profit section 21 company, established in 1996, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Its mission is to strengthen electoral processes, good governance, human rights and democratic values through research, capacity building, advocacy and other targeted interventions. The organisation services governments, electoral commissions, political parties, civil society organisations and other institutions operating in the democracy and governance fields throughout Africa.
EISA more than a decade of experience in governance issues, and is rapidly expanding its research on NEPAD, the APRM and good governance. The EISA website has further details on the Institute's current APRM database. EISA is also the coordinating partner of the Southern African Integration Network (SAINET); a network of civil society and non-governmental organizations that have an interest in strengthening civil society engagement in the APRM.

The ISS is a Non-Governmental Organization whose stated mission is to: "...conceptualise, inform and enhance the debate on human security in Africa in order to support policy formulation and decision making at all levels towards the enhancement of human security for all in Africa."
The ISS keeps a fairly up-to-date database of relevant documentation on NEPAD, the APRM and the African Union. It can be accessed from the ISS home page.

International IDEA is a intergovernmental organisation with membership from all continents with a mandate to support sustainable democracy worldwide. The website is a useful resource in a number of areas, in particular democratic governance practices and includes some documentation on the APRM. The site is available in English, Spanish and French.
South African Institute for International Affairs (SAIIA) [www] http://www.saiia.org.za
The SAIIA is an independent, non-governmental organisation which aims to promote a wider and more informed understanding of international issues among South Africans. It seeks also to educate, inform and facilitate contact between people concerned with South Africa's place in the world, and to contribute to the public debate on foreign policy.
The SAIIA is one of the few institutions to boast a dedicated NEPAD research unit in South Africa, and consults with regional stakeholders outside South Africa, in addition to producing various research on NEPAD and the APRM. See the SAIIA homepage for further details.
Southern African Regional Poverty Network (SARPN) [www] http://www.sarpn.org.za
SARPN is a non-profit organisation that promotes debate and knowledge sharing on poverty reduction processes and experiences in Southern Africa. SARPN aims to contribute towards effective reduction of poverty in the countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) through creating platforms for effective pro-poor policy, strategy and practice. SARPN achieves this goal through widening participation, bringing people together across the region to exchange ideas, and disseminating information to deepen understandings of poverty issues and improve policy and practice.
SARPN has a diverse collection of materials concerning NEPAD, the APRM and the African Union, which can be accessed from the SARPN website.

AllAfrica Global Media is a multi-media content service provider, systems technology developer and the largest electronic distributor of African news and information worldwide. The AllAfrica website is an excellent resource for news and related articles on the APRM and NEPAD. The AllAfrica archive is available via subscription only. Thus, some stories are unavailable without a subscription.

The AfriMAP project of the Open Society Institute (OSI); a project which aims to: Contribute toward improved respect in Africa for international standards relating to human rights, the rule of law and accountable government; produce reports identifying achievements and challenges in complying with those standards and suggesting means to improve performance; support and promote the active engagement of civil society as an independent monitoring watchdog; and complement and engage in critical dialogue with the African Union and its monitoring efforts, particularly the African Peer Review Mechanism.
AfriMAP works with African civil society organizations and the Open Society Institute's African foundations to research and publish reports on themes related to governance in individual African countries. The reports are based on a standardized reporting framework that - like the African Union's New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) - links respect for human rights and good governance to development that benefits poor people.
