About the Toolkit

APRM CD cover

As the African Peer Review Mechanism gathers pace on the continent, and as new information is continuously being made available, there is an increasing risk that observers and interested stakeholders in the APRM become bewildered and confused by the sheer volume of information available on the APRM. One of the primary benefits of a toolkit such as this one is the ability to rationally organize various documentation, data and reports in a rational and easily accessible manner which assists rather than confuses a person interested in the APRM. Another advantage of this toolkit is that it provides a platform for stakeholders to contribute to the expanding body of knowledge on the APRM, drawing on their own unique experiences and sharing these with other stakeholders. The current version of the toolkit is listed at the bottom of this page, and the toolkit will be periodically updated and expanded as new information becomes available.

The layout of this toolkit has been designed to provide the user with a schematic overview of the various institutions, functions and practices of the APRM, followed by in-depth examinations of early country experiences in conducting self-assessments and undergoing peer reviews. There is also a section detailing potential areas of civil society engagement with various national and continental institutions of the APRM, and a resource section which archives a comprehensive collection of the core APRM documents as well as supporting materials and papers on related themes.

EISA, as the coordinating partner for Southern African CSOs of the Southern African Integration Network (SAINET) would like to invite any interested civil society or non-governmental agencies interested in contributing or partnering to the development of this toolkit to contact aprm@eisa.org.za. Any queries or comments regarding the toolkit should also be directed to this email address. Please refer to http://www.aprmtoolkit.org for additional information on this toolkit. The version number and revision date of the toolkit are reflected at the bottom of this page.

For a detailed sitemap of the various sections available in this version, see the Contents page.

On behalf of the design team, we hope that you find this resource useful in enhancing your understanding and participation in the African Peer Review Mechanism in your country.
