The CRM undertook the following activities during its 12 day trip to Kenya:
- Interactions with a diverse range of stakeholders including the NGC, civil society organisations, media, political parties, academia, faith-based and human rights organisations, trade unions, women and youth organisations, minorities, disadvantaged groups, persons living with disabilities, persons living with HIV/AIDS, and associations of journalists;
- Meetings with Cabinet Ministers, parliamentarians and other government officials;
- Provincial fora in seven provinces to gain a fuller insight into the governance challenges facing people in different regions of the country;
- A meeting with His Excellency, Hon Mwai Kibaki, President of the Republic of Kenya;
- A wrap-up session between the CRM, the NGC and the APRM National Commission members to summarise the country's review exercise.
As a result of these consultations, and based on the CSAR and draft Programme of Action, the Review Mission commended the Kenyan government and peoples' remarkable commitment to the APRM process and the work being done at diverse levels of Kenyan society to improve the living conditions of its people. Dr. Machel commended the Ministry of National Planning and Development, the NGC and the NEPAD Kenya Secretariat for the successful implementation of the review, and noted that the CRM felt that the quality and integrity of the APRM process had been upheld by the Kenyan people. The CRM submitted an addendum to the CSAR report to the APR Secretariat, which subsequently submitted the CSAR to the APR Panel for review. The full report was presented and adopted by the APR Forum in Banjul, the Gambia on 30 June 2006, nearly a full year after the final report was submitted to the APR Secretariat. This lengthy delay is obviously less than desirable in maintaining the momentum and interest that existed in the APRM in Kenya at the time of the CRM, but was unavoidable as the APR Forum meets only once or twice each year.
