Timeframes and Durations

The APR Forum reviews the APRM process every five years.

Process Duration
Accession Once a country notifies the APRM Secretariat that it wishes to accede to the APRM, the Secretariat invites the Head of State to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on the APRM at the next Participating Heads of State and Government of the APRM meeting (APR Forum), NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee meeting (HSGIC) or AU summit, whichever comes first
Country Review Timetable Benin, Uganda & Mozambique are expected to be peer reviewed in Jan 2008.
Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Zambia are expected to be peer reviewed in July 2008.

Country Self-Assessment A country's self-assessment process is officially supposed to take 6 - 9 months. However, the production of a final Country Self-Assessment report in practice has tended to take between 9 - 12 months, and in some cases longer
APR Team visits A country support mission (CSM) is normally for a duration of 2 - 5 days
A country review mission (CRM) is normally for a duration of 10 - 14 days.
APR Panel Chairperson The Chairperson of the APR Panel is a full-time salaried position which is renewed on a 5-year basis
APR Panel Members The members of the APR Panel are employed part-time, with honorariums provided for their services during official missions and activities, and membership of the panel is reviewed on a 4-year basis
Termination from APRM Upon written notice of a country's decision to terminate its association with the APRM, the country will cease to be a member after 6 months. At any stage there must be at least 5 member states of the APRM for it to be a functioning entity
