Preparation for follow-up review

The APRM process is cyclical in nature, ensuring that every five years the country's governance standards and practices are once again reviewed.

The first time a country undertakes a self-assessment process, it creates a base assessment on which the subsequent assessment is based. The second time a country undertakes a governance review, it does so on the basis of the Programme of Action generated after its first assessment. This second assessment examines the progress made in achieving the specific objectives outlined in the POA, and also allows for these objectives to be reviewed in light of the progress and developments of the previous five years. The process then cycles around again, ensuring consistency and continuity in a country's strategy to improve and enhance its governance standards and practices.
