Mme Marie-Angélique Savané

Mme Savané has worked with various UN agencies (UNRISD, HCR and UNFPA) and has served as Head of Research Department, Team Manager and Director for Africa within the UN.

Mme Savané served as a member of various independent commissions such as the South Commission; the Global Governance Commission; and the UNESCO Commission on Education in the 21st century. Mme Savané has served as a Board Member of various national and international institutions and she has collaborated with dignitaries like Former United States President Jimmy Carter and Nigerian President Olesegun Obasanjo.

Mme Savané played an influential role in the emergence of African civil society in the seventies and eighties. She founded such institutions as the Association of African Women for Research and Development (1977) and the Forum of African Voluntary Organisations(1986).

Mme Savané is currently an international consultant and Chairperson of the Foundation in Support of Basic Initiatives and a columnist on a weekly magazine, Nouvel Horizon.
