Prof Adebayo Adedeji
Prof Adebayo Adedeji is from Nigeria and represents Western Africa on the APR Panel.
Prof Adedeji has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University and a PhD in Economics from the University of London in addition to several other honorary degrees which have been conferred on him during his career.
Prof Adedeji served as a Professor of Public Administration while at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in Nigeria (1966); Nigeria's post-civil war Minister of Economic Planning and Reconstruction (1971 - 1975); and United Nations Under Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
Prof Adedeji was instrumental in the establishment of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and was also involved in initiatives such as the Lagos Plan of Action (1980), the Final Act of Lagos (1980), the African Alternative Framework to Structural Adjustment Programmes (AAF-SAP, 1989) and the African Charter for Popular Participation (ACPP, 1990). He is the current Chief Executive of ACDESS.
