Zimbabwe: Elections Directorate
Updated July 2008
The Elections Directorate (ED) was abolished by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Act and its functions were transferred to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. It was statutory body tasked with "the administrative logistics of the election process" on election day. Its function was primarily that of coordination of effort of the various organs involved. The Chairperson was appointed by the President, and it was staffed with civil servants. As a result of its lack of independence, its impartiality was brought into question (Molokele 2005).
