Zimbabwe: 2008 Elections voter registration

Voter registration is voluntary and continuous; registration closes 24 hours before nomination day (Electoral Act CAP 2:13, 17A, 26A). Registration is with a constituency registrar who is subject to the supervision of ZEC (Constitution 1980, 61(4)(c),(d),(h); Electoral Act CAP 2:13, 24). Applicants must present national identity card and proof of residence and are issued with registration certificates (Electoral Act CAP 2:13, 24-26).
A registration drive, using mobile stations, was conducted 18 June - 17 August 2007. Registration closed on 13 February 2008; this had been scheduled to end on 6 February 2008, but was postponed. A total of 5 934 768 voters were registered (Veritas 2008). Inspection of rolls commenced on 14 February 2008.
The election was held on the 29 March 2008.
