Zambia: 2006 Presidential election candidates

Updated August 2006

The following are running for election as President of Zambia in 2006 (Electoral Commission of Zambia 2006):

  • Hakainde Hichilema of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
  • General Godfrey Miyanda of the Heritage Party.
  • Incumbent President Levy Mwanawasa of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).
  • Kenny Ngondo of the All People's Congress (APC).
  • Michael Sata of the Patriotic Front.

Zambian presidents are elected by a plurality and so no run-offs are held.

Note: The United Democratic Alliance is a coalition of the United Party for National Development (UPND), the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) and the United National Independence Party (UNIP).
