Zambia: 1996 Presidential elections national results
Updated June 2007
The new constitution adopted prior to the election effectively barred the president and vice-president of the opposition United National Independence Party (UNIP) from standing for the Presidency; the UNIP, along with five other allied parties, boycotted the presidential and National Assembly elections (Lodge et al 2002, 327-328).
