Sudan: Provisional 2011 Southern Sudan referendum results
Updated January 2011
The referendum on whether the Southern Sudan was to remain an autonomous region within the Republic of Sudan or to become an independent state was conducted 9-15 January 2011.
In terms of the Southern Sudan Referendum Act 2009 for the referendum to be valid at least 60% of registered voters had to cast their ballots (section 41(2)) and the referendum was to be decided by 50% of the vote plus one (section 66).
