Election day: 22 April 2009
Foreign votes: Applications close 15 April 2009.
Special votes: Applications to Municipal Electoral Officer close 14 April, to Presiding Officer 20 April 2009.
Candidate lists: Parties submit lists by 2 March, lists and documentation available for inspection 16-17 March, 2009 (28 parties submitted lists for the National Assembly), objections submitted by 18 March, Electoral Court rulings by 31 March 2009.
Voters' roll: Published by 20 February 2009.
Voter Registration: Closed 12 February 2009. South Africa's voters' roll is continuously updated. Registration drives were held on 8-9 November 2008 and 7-8 February 2009. There are just over 23 million voters registered.
