SADC: Members and accession data

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has its origins in the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC) which was formed by nine frontline states on 1 April 1980, in Lusaka, to reduce their economic dependence on the apartheid state of South Africa.
On 17 August 1992 the SADCC was reconstituted as the SADC in Windhoek and has its headquarters in Gaborone. It has since epanded to include the 15 states mapped below.
