Mozambique: National Electoral Commission (continued)
Note: In February and June of 2007 the Assembly of the Republic passed five new electoral laws. The information on this page will be revised and updated as soon as possible. Significant here is that Law no 8/2007 26 February (governs the National Electoral Commission) replaces Law no 20/2002.
Legal immunity
Commissioners have legal immunity except in those cases in which their activities might have an improper effect on the final result of elections or referenda (Law 20/02 2002, 15).
Funding
In terms of the law the Electoral Commissions are entitled to be subsidised through the state budget. The operational expenses of the commissions are covered by an appropriation of funds from the state budget to the Technical Secretariat for the Administration of Elections (Law 20/02 2002, 16, 38-40.
