Updated January 2010
The election was held on 28 October 2009. The results were confirmed by the Constitutional Council on 27 December 2009.
Candidates
Nine men were nominated as candidates for the 2009 Presidential election. The Constitutional Council, in terms of Law 7/2007 section 132, scrutinised the prospective candidates' nomination submissions and on 14 August 2009 ruled that only three had met the legal requirements for valid nomination; the remaining six were rejected because they failed to meet the requirement of 10 000 acceptable signatures supporting their candidacy. See 2009 Presidential election candidates for more details.
