Mauritius: 1995 National Assembly election results

The election took place on 20 December 1995.
Up to eight seats, in addition to those contested in the multimember constituency contests, are allocated to "best losers" by the Electoral Supervisory Commission "[i]n order to ensure a fair and adequate representation of each community", in terms of Section 38 of the Constitution of 1968. In 1995 only four best loser seats were allocated, one each to Hizbullah and the PGD and two to Mouvement Rodriguais (MR).
According to Lodge et al (2002, 173-174) there were 715 179 registered voters (for a breakdown by constituency see Electoral Preparations: Voter registration).
Electoral alliances
PTr/MMM was an alliance of the Labour Party (LP or PTr) and Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM).
MSM/RMM was an alliance of the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM)and Renouveau Militant Mauricien (RMM).
