Mauritius: 1982 National Assembly election results

The election took place on 11 June 1982.

Up to eight seats, in addition to those contested in the multimember constituency contests, are allocated to "best losers" by the Electoral Supervisory Commission "[i]n order to ensure a fair and adequate representation of each community", in terms of Section 38 of the Constitution of 1968. In 1982 four best loser seats were allocated, two each to PAN and to PMSD.

According to Lodge et al (2002, 168) voting statistics were:
Registered voters: 540 000
Votes cast: 471 196
Turnout: 87.3%

Electoral Aliances and parties

Alliance MMM/PSM was formed from the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM) and Parti Socialiste Mauricien (PSM)
Parti d'Alliance National was an alliance of Labour Party, Muslim Action Committee and dissidents from the PMSD.
