Burundi: 2010 Provisional National Assembly election results

The election took place on 23 July 2010. The results given below are provisional since they had not yet been confirmed by the Constitutional Court.
Poll boycott
The election was boycotted by most of the political parties, with only the ruling Conseil National pour la Défense de la Démocratie-Forces pour la Défense de la Démocratie (CNDD-FDD), Unite pour le Progrès National (UPRONA) and Nyakuri-Iragi rya Ndadaye (Sahwanya FRODEBU Nyakuri) contesting the election. Structure of the National Assembly
Elected members: In terms of electoral law (Constitution 2005, Articles 164, 168, 169; Loi No 1/22 2009, 105, 107, 108, 136) the 100 directly elected members of the National Assembly members are elected by proportional representation from closed multi-ethnic party lists for each of the 17 provinces. A minimum quota of 2% of the votes is required for a party to obtain representation.
Coopted members: Furthermore, these provisions require that the National Assembly be composed of 60% Hutu and 40% Tutsi members, that at least 30% of the members be women and that the Twa ethnic group be represented by three members. To ensure that these provisions are met the National Independent Electoral Commission is empowered to coopt additional members. The table below excludes the three Twa members.
