Bechuanaland Protectorate Federal Party (BPFP)	Founded in 1959, disintegrated by the 1965 election
Bechuanaland Peoples Party (BPP Motsete)	Leader: Kgalemang Motsete Founded in 1963 after a split in the original BPP. It contested the 1965 elections but won no seats. By the 1969 elections the party had disintegrated.
Botswana Independence Party (BIP)	Leader: Motsamai Mpho Founded in 1962 as BPP (Mpho), merged with Botswana Freedom Party (BFP) to form Independence Freedom Party (IFP) in 1994.
Botswana Freedom Party (BFP)	Leader: Chief Bathoen Gaseitsiwe II Founded in c1989, merged with Botswana Independence Party (BIP) to form Independence Freedom Party (IFP) in 1994.
Independence Freedom Party (IFP)	Leader: Motsamai Mpho Founded in 1994, merged with the UAP to form BAM in 1999
United Action Party (UAP) AKA BOSHELE	Leader: Ephraim Lepetu Setshwaelo Founded in 1997, merged with the IFP to form BAM in 1999
New Democratic Front (NDF)	Leader: Dick Bayford Founded in 2003 by Botswana National Front dissidents, merged with Botswana Congress Party in 2004
