Botswana: 1987 Referendum
Updated April 2007
According to the IEC (Undated), "In 1987 Batswana voted to create the office of the Supervisor of elections". Lodge et al (2002, 45) observe, "This election [for the 1989 National Assembly] followed on the 1987 referendum on electoral reform, which was boycotted by the BNF because the reforms did not provide for an independent electoral commission".
