Principles for International Election Observation & Code of Conduct for International Election Observers

EISA participated in the Commemoration Ceremony for the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation and Code of Conduct for International Election Observers held at the United Nations on 27th October 2005. The formulation of the Declaration is a joint initiative of the United Nations Electoral Assistance Division (UNEAD), The National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Carter Centre. EISA contributed to the content of the Declaration.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, former US President Jimmy Carter, former US Secretary of State Madeleine K. Allbright for NDI and Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza of the Organisations of American States, gave the opening remarks. Aside from the co-ordinating organisations, participants included EISA, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Pacific Island Forum, SADC Parliament Forum, International Republican Institute (IRI), Inter-Parliamentary Union, International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), Organization for Security and Coordination in Europe - Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, European Commission, Electoral Reform International Services (ERIS), La Francopohonie, International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES), Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand Electoral Auhtorities (PIANZEA) Commonwealth Secretariat, Asian Network for Free Elections, African Uion, Centre for Electoral Promotion and Advice and the European Network for Election Monitoring Organisations.
